Exercise 1. Use the following words:
(a) as nouns:
call : She got a call from her mother.

above: Bring one of the above.

all: All my colleagues are very smart.

fair: I bought it at local fair.

fast: I observe fast every Saturday.

last: They ate the last of the cookies.

round: Sita finished the practice round.

light: There is no light in the room.

walk: I go for a walk in the evening.

light: I lighted the lamp.

(c) as adjectives:
calm: The teachers have a calm discussion about the grade.

back: We hardly use the back door.

head: Mr Sharma is the head editor.

like: We can't remember a like instance.

much: Do you get much sleep?

enough: She hasn't got a big enough utensil.

all: We have been waiting all the week to see him.

light: It's a light work.

after: The after gun is ready to fire.

call: It's a calling tablet.

spring: He moved to Manipur last spring.

that: It is really that bad.

book: Her travelling gives her with extensive book knowledge.

master: He is a master craftsmen.

love: He accepted the gift with loving care.

(d) as adverbs:
after: Don't inform them until after.

back: Bring the file back.

only: This thing is only available here.

close: We sit close together on the bank.

past: I am past twenty.

light: Rani ran light and fast through the park.

round: Bimal looked round the room.

near: The principal lives near the school.

above: She put the painting above.

foul: The man had been foully murdered during the night.

long: I waited for long for my turn. 

(e) as prepostions:
after: The police ran after the thief.

down: She fell down badly.

before: He likes to drink before meal.

except: All will go except me.

near: Our principal is near retirement.

past: He drove past the house.

round: The moon goes round the earth.

above: The thing is above our head.

till: She won't be back till late.

after: We will have a movie after break.

(f) as conjuctions:
as: We don't like coffee as much as we like tea.

before: She hugged everyone before she left.

but: I am reading but my sister is playing.

while: He was doing work while I was sitting.

only: He is the only person who knows it well.

since: I have been working here since 2000.

still: She is still studying her book.

that: We couldn't recognise that he was a teacher.

till: I will stay here till he comes back.

after: He completed the task after he had studied a lot
